Sleepy Beauty

This is one of my favorite fun poems that was published in Down the Rabbit Hole ! Sleepy Beauty Like an unbalanced beam When I forget to daydream. I close my eyes See peace in disguise Dancing out of a colorful steam As my favorite flavor of ice cream. I take a bite, and it seems I'm swimming in streams of glitter Where worries whither And villains can't scheme, All is agleam. Gliding through the shine Souls rest and recline. Then a sudden buzz and screech I lose control of my speech Laughing in twirl and swirl I open my eyes and hurl Toward a screaming alarm That I unplug with no harm "Now, not another peep, I'm going back to sleep." Cobblestone Confetti

Cobblestone Confetti                Each crackling step of cobblestone led me to a rusted town gate. Crunch, crunch. My feet swooped leaves as I admired the wall that stood giants above my head. It occurred to me that the night was too quiet, and the colorful autumn foliage scattered along the tropical seascape seemed out of place.             Confused by Mother Nature, I remembered last spring break.  I had spent a few days in this exact spot. Making memories with confetti ice cream in a waffle bowl and the strum of local bands became one of my favorite family adventures.             Today the tourists seemed quieter and less active among the medieval dungeons, pirate cruises, and haunted hayrides. I window shopped with my gaze set toward the sweet shop where confetti ice cream waited for me.    ...

Editing

Editing I’m just a romantic, shaping the vague, In colors that drift through a thought-made plague. With words that bend light, persuade, and ignite, Urging souls to walk fearlessly through the night. A daydreamer sketching the unformed sky, With syllables stitched into wings that try To lift off the page, unburdened by form, A storm of verse that won't conform. Abstract lines paint what eyes can’t see, A canvas of sound, a mind set free. Each stanza a brushstroke, wild and wide, Where language and meaning softly collide. I sip from the hue of imagery’s flame, Each metaphor flickers, never the same. Couplets march, two by two, Wading through chaos to find what's true. I revise the shadows I used to be, And in that undoing, set art free. Carving life with an open pen, Bleeding ink, then healing again. Shelly Ambrose 2019
